3.3.8.2. Starter electric motor

GENERAL INFORMATION

Starter wires

1. A wire from the battery
2. A wire on the generator
3. The tire connecting a power exit to a starter
4. Conclusion 50

On models 1988-1990 of there is an additional wire (in a picture is absent).

Rack of the soaking-up collector and nut of fastening of a rack on cars with the 4-cylinder engine

1. Switch of a butterfly valve
2. The soaking-up collector

Bolts of fastening of a starter are specified by shooters.

Prevention

Before check of a starter be convinced that the battery is completely charged.

Check without removal from the car

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the starter electric motor does not rotate at turn of a key at all, then be convinced that the lever of the selector is in situation Park or Neutral (on cars with automatic transmission).
2. Make sure that the battery is charged, check purity reliability of fastening of power cables.
3. If at turn of a key the electric motor of a starter turns on, and the crankshaft is not turned, then slipping of the obgonny coupling of a starter is the reason. In this case the starter should be replaced.
4. If at turn of a key the electric motor of a starter does not rotate, but clicks of the traction relay sound, then contacts of the traction relay, the battery or the electric motor of a starter are faulty (or the crankshaft is hardly turned).
5. If at inclusion of a starter the click published by a relay anchor is not listened, then malfunction of the battery, burn-out of a fusible crossing point, malfunction of the traction relay can be causes of failure.
6. For check of the traction relay to a peremknita on the relay a conclusion for connection of the battery (+) and a conclusion for a wire from the ignition key (the small plug). If the electric motor of a starter is started, then the traction relay is serviceable, and the ignition key, the auxiliary relay of a starter or conducting are faulty.
7. If the starter electric motor is still not started, then remove a starter for dismantling, check and repair.
8. If the starter turns the crankshaft, but with very small speed, then at first check degree of state of charge of the battery and reliability of connections. The starter will rotate the engine with a small speed also in those cases if the crankshaft hardly rotates or in the engine oil with too big viscosity is filled in.
9. Warm up the engine, then disconnect a high-voltage wire of the coil from a cover of the distributor and connect to weight on the engine.

10. Connect the voltmeter. Include a starter and consider the established indication of the voltmeter. Time of inclusion of a starter should not exceed 15 seconds. Tension on the battery at a normal speed of rotation of the crankshaft has to be 9 V or a little more. If tension on the battery is equal to 9 V, or exceeds 9 V a little, and the speed of rotation of the crankshaft low, then the electric motor of a starter is faulty. If voltage less than 9 V, and the speed of rotation of the crankshaft low, then malfunction of a starter or the battery are probable causes.

Prevention

The starter assembled with the traction relay is not subject to independent repair, despite existence in sale of necessary spare parts. In case of refusal replace a starter or take to repare.

Removal and installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the battery from weight.
2. Lift a car front.
3. Designate and disconnect all wires from a starter.
4. For access to a starter it is required to shoot the air filter, a broad tank and hoses of the cooling system with parts of cars.
5. On a part of cars with the 4-cylinder engine turn off bolts and nuts and remove a rack of the soaking-up collector, remove a starter.
6. Installation is carried out upside-down.
