In this manual the term "additional maintenance" belongs to set of the performed works, but not to the concrete procedure. If from the moment of acquisition of the new car in accuracy to observe a maintenance order, to carry out frequent inspections of level of liquids and details subject to the increased wear, then at the engine high operational qualities will remain and the volume of additional works will be minimized.

Irregular maintenance can become the main reason for abnormal operation of the engine. Especially it concerns the engine of the acquired not new car which was not exposed to regular checks. In such cases besides periodic maintenance, it is necessary to perform additional adjustment works.

Any kind of works on maintenance, or search of the reason of abnormal operation of the engine should be begun with check of a compression in cylinders. Check of a compression in cylinders gives valuable information of rather general condition of many details of the internal device of the engine which can be used as fundamental both for the current maintenance, and for repair procedures. If, for example, a compression such is that strong wear of the engine is obvious, then routine maintenance will not lead to restoration of normal operational qualities and all works come down to an excessive waste of time and money.

The list of works which performance often leads to recovery of normal operation of the engine is given below.

Minor adjustment works

Check a state and level of all liquids of the engine.

Check all hoses in a motor compartment.

Check a condition of belts of the drive, if necessary adjust.

Clear, examine and check the battery.

Replace spark plugs.

Check high-voltage wires, a cover and the runner of the distributor of ignition.

Check a condition of the air filter.

Check the cooling system.

Main adjustment works

Perform all minor works and those which are listed below:

Check system of ignition.

Check system of a charge of the battery.

Check fuel system.

Replace wires, a cover and the runner of the distributor of ignition.
